Glory to the Heroes maps recreate actual battlefields of the Russian-Ukrainian war using real-world elevation data and photogrammetry-scanned structures. Developed by Ukrainian indie studio Deaf Tone Games, the military simulation features three playable maps at its Early Access launch, alongside multiple confirmed battlefields scheduled on the development roadmap.

Every combat zone is built for specific tactical environments, ranging from floodplain river crossings and dense urban ruins to subterranean factory networks.

Early Access Launch Maps

The initial Early Access release centers on three distinct infantry and mechanized combat maps.

Fight for Krynky

Fight for Krynky covers a 2.0 × 1.4 km sector along the left bank of the Dnipro River, documenting the marine bridgehead operations from 2023–2024.

  • Terrain Layout: Dense rural village blocks, abandoned residential courtyards, flooded marshlands, and foggy Kherson forestry.
  • Tactical Dynamics: The map features an asymmetric spawn design. Ukrainian forces cross waterlogged terrain and reeds from the river approaches, navigating exposed ground under drone surveillance. Russian forces begin with established defensive positions inside the village blocks.
  • Cover Mechanics: Surface structures are heavily damaged by simulated artillery strikes and heavy thermobaric systems (such as the TOS-1A), forcing squads to utilize basements and dugouts for survival.

Chasiv Yar - Canal

Modeled as a 1:1 replica of the contested Canal district during late-winter and early-spring conditions, Chasiv Yar focuses on multi-story urban warfare.

  • Terrain Layout: Cold, snow-covered suburban streets, concrete panel high-rises, basements, reinforced bunkers, and defensive entrenchment sectors.
  • Tactical Dynamics: Long sightlines down barren streets favor snipers and designated marksmen, while interior stairwells and collapsed apartments require close-quarters room clearing.
  • Key Objectives: Strategic positions include contested apartment clusters such as the "Twin Houses" objective and the forward school base, both reinforced with fortified firing points.

Izium Machine-Building Plant

Set during the 2022 Izium counter-offensive, the Izium Machine-Building Plant shifts combat into a dense industrial environment.

  • Terrain Layout: Heavy industrial production halls, loading yards, rail depot networks, administrative complexes, surrounding residential panel buildings, and deep subterranean maintenance tunnels.
  • Tactical Dynamics: Unlike the open approaches of Krynky, the plant emphasizes extreme close-quarters combat (CQB), narrow corridors, and verticality across multi-tier factory walkways.
  • Subterranean Routes: Underground passages allow squads to bypass surface artillery bombardments and ambush players holding industrial hangars above ground.

Roadmap Battlefields and Future Operations

Deaf Tone Games has detailed several expansive battlefields in post-launch roadmaps and development logs:

  • Battle of Izium (Combined Arms): A massive persistent theatre exceeding 425 km². Built for large-scale operations involving player-crewed tanks, infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs), and crew-served stationary artillery systems like the M777A2 howitzer.
  • Serebryansky Forest: A woodland battleground depicting dawn combat through heavily shelled, splintered forest sectors, designed for both PvPvE and PvE cooperative play.
  • Battle of Antonov Airport: Recreates Antonov Airport, highlighted by the damaged hangar housing the destroyed An-225 Mriya.
  • Night Operations Variants: A planned update introducing dedicated night variants for all existing launch maps. These layouts incorporate tactical modules, weapon flashlights, IR lasers, and PVS-14 night vision devices.

How Game Modes Impact Map Flow

The layout and flow of each map change drastically depending on the chosen deployment mode:

Contact (Matchmaking)

Contact is a high-stakes, linear matchmaking mode supporting 24 to 48 players. Firefights advance along a sequential line of contestable military objectives. When a team suffers strategic defeat or time expires, the match shifts into an extraction finale, requiring surviving players to reach safe extraction zones to secure carried gear.

Operations (Persistent Server Warfare)

Operations run on persistent, long-form servers supporting up to 48 players in PvPvE (and up to 24 in PvE co-op). All capture sectors across the map are accessible immediately. Players can capture logistics points, store items into forward personal stashes, or safely extract at friendly bases whenever ready.

Offline PvE Training

Players can access map layouts offline against bot combatants. Offline training allows exploration of navigation routes, terrain elevations, and ballistics practice without risking personal stash gear, though offline progress does not carry over to online faction profiles.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many maps are available at the Early Access launch?

There are three playable maps at launch: Fight for Krynky, Chasiv Yar - Canal, and the Izium Machine-Building Plant.

Is the Battle of Izium the same map as the Izium Plant?

No. The Izium Machine-Building Plant is a contained industrial complex available at launch. The Battle of Izium is an upcoming 425+ km² combined-arms persistent operation planned for later Early Access updates.

Can you drive combat vehicles on all launch maps?

Launch maps include unarmored squad transport vehicles like the Humvee and Ural-63095. Heavy crewed vehicles, such as tanks and infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs), are scheduled for future roadmap updates alongside larger maps like the 425+ km² Battle of Izium.

Are environmental scans taken from real locations?

Yes. The developer created the terrain using real elevation data and on-site photogrammetry scans of battle-damaged infrastructure, vehicles, and fortifications across Ukraine.
